The United States Mint has become the catalyst at once again reaching out to the youth of America through numismatics. Young Collector’s coin sets were once an annual release geared towards the youngest of enthusiasts. It was a great way of getting a child involved in the hobby that you so actively participated in and held close to the heartstrings.
On March 28, 2019, the Mint continued its active approach at reaching a younger audience by releasing its second (the first was the 2019 Rocketship Coins) young person’s coin set in the last three months. This is a large amount only due to the fact that the last young collector’s driven product released was in 2014 with the National Baseball Hall of Fame Young Collector’s Set in addition to the Coin Discovery Set that’s purpose was to introduce youngsters to coin collecting.

In addition to releasing the youth-oriented products this year, the US Mint also decided to introduce these sets with the help of the new Mighty Minters. The characters include Kendra, Timothy, Sophie, Lina, Alex, Layla, and Eli (the fox). These cast of characters are there to guide children through the sets with a layer of style, fun, and diversity all the while remaining relatable to the kids and their parents.
The second set itself contains six coins from both the San Francisco and Denver Mints in addition to a penny planchet. With the help of a provided magnifying glass, kids will be able to identify and see clearly the elements and detail of each 2019-dated coin. The coins include a quarter from
Here’s the fun part: there are four quarter openings aimed at the thrill of the hunt for the kids. The objective? To collect the other four America the Beautiful Quarters released this year. Also included is an activity book with games, fun facts about the coins, the Mighty Minter’s biographies, and a step-by-step graphic of how the coins are produced.
With the release of these brand new coin sets, youngsters are encouraged to participate in one of the most recognized of hobbies the United States has to offer. United States coins are jam-packed with history and collectibility and these sets are to act as just the starting point in the young collector’s beginnings in the world that is numismatics. The third set is to be released in the fall, the United States Mint 2019 Youth Coin and Currency Set.
