The start of the new year and a new decade have been quite the impressive one. New Silver American Eagle options including the Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof versions, the Congratulations Set, the last five of six of the America the Beautiful Quarter Program, etc. Jam-packed schedule? Always. Do we like that? Definitely. Are we ready for more? Absolutely.
Tomorrow or February 27th to be exact, the 2020 Clad Proof Set in Original Government Packaging will be released and it will be similar to last year’s version. Not sure what that means? Let us refresh your mind.
2019’s 10-coin set included five America the Beautiful quarters in addition to the Native American $1 Coin, Kennedy Half dollar, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel, and Lincoln cent. It was not much different from the previous years, with the exception of one little (or big) bonus that was included in the set. The first ‘W’ minted Lincoln penny minted at West Point with a Proof finish. In fact, it would be the first of three special edition pennies included in the annual sets with a Reverse Proof version following in the Silver Proof Set and an Uncirculated one included with the Uncirculated (Mint) Set. It was a first and it was quite a big deal.
In United States Mint fashion, they have decided to follow it up with another special edition “W” coin to be included in the same ways except for this time, they will feature the Jefferson nickel.
The set itself will include 10 Proof coins and be encased in two clear plastic lenses for protection. It will include the 11th annual release of five (of the last six) quarters in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program which will feature the following designs:
- National Park of American Samoa (American Samoa)
- Weir Farm National Historic Site (Connecticut)
- Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve (Virgin Islands)
- Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park (Vermont)
- Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve (Kansas)
It will also feature this year’s Native American $1 Coin that depicts the portrait of advocate Elizabeth Peratrovich who was imperative in the passage of the 1945 Anti-Discrimination Law in the Alaskan territorial legislature. In addition, the 10-coin set will have the Kennedy Half dollar, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel, and Lincoln cent.
The Proof Jefferson nickel bonus coin will be complementary to the set and be packaged in clear United States Mint plastic wrap and then placed inside an envelope. Last year’s extra penny had its fair share of packaging issues and the Mint has taken that into account this year. Next to follow will be the special edition West Point minted Reverse Proof Jefferson nickel in the Silver Proof Set that is due to be released in mid-April.
