As we keep rolling through this year with already two months of 2021 on the books, we start off the month of March with an annual release that appears to be a lot different than years past. As the America the Beautiful Quarters Program comes to a close early this year, the United States Mint decided to make its final nod to the program while also introducing the next phase of the United States quarter dollar. Beginning this Friday, March 5th, the 2021 Proof Set will be available from the Mint at noon EST.
Minted at San Francisco, the annual coin set will contain just seven coins with the Proof finish. In one lens, the final quarter of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program honoring the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site in Alabama will be featured alongside a General George Washington Crossing the Delaware Quarter. The reverse design for the Tuskegee Airmen quarter dollar features a Tuskegee Airman pilot suiting up to join the fight during the Second World War. The Moton Field control tower is seen in the background along with two P-51 Mustangs over his head. The new reverse from the General George Washington Crossing the Delaware Quarter dollar features George Washington commanding his troops across the Delaware River right before the Battle of Trenton.
The second lens will feature the Native American $1 coin with its latest reverse design honoring Native American military service, one Kennedy half dollar, one Roosevelt dime, one Jefferson nickel, and one Lincoln cent. The set will also be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and will retail currently at $32.
