Back in November, we gave you a heads up as to what the United States Mint had coming down the pipeline as far as their start to the 2022 production schedule. As always, we caveat those outlines as the Mint has a way of moving around dates and pushing back releases without notice. While they have indeed already moved certain release dates around, they have in fact kept their release of the Negro Leagues Baseball Commemorative Series set for Thursday, January 6th.
Nine total products were announced as part of the series, including a $5 Gold Proof Coin, $5 Gold Uncirculated Coin, Clad Proof Half Dollar, Uncirculated Clad Half Dollar, Proof Silver, Dollar, Uncirculated Silver Dollar, Proof Silver Dollar and Jackie Robinson Proof Silver Medal Set, Proof Silver Dollar with Privy Mark, and a Three-Coin Proof Set. The commemorative series is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Negro National League which was a professional baseball league created as a result of African American players being banned from the other major leagues.
All the products have different mintage limits as well as product and household limits. Much like last year’s commemorative releases, the Mint has once again decided to take pre-orders starting at 12pm EST on January 6th, 2022, and the expected shipping date will not be until mid-April. However, unlike last year’s process, they will start with introductory pricing for single coin options and feature regular pricing starting on February 7th at 3pm EST. Surcharges will be authorized to be paid (dollar amount dependent upon coin purchased) to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum for educational and outreach programs and exhibits.
