Last 2023 American Women's Quarter To Be Released Today Honoring Maria Tallchief

The fifth and final release in the 2023 American Women Quarters program will be released today from the United States Mint. Honoring Maria Tallchief, the quarter dollars will be available in 100-coin bags, 2-roll sets, and 3-rolls sets beginning at 12pm EST.

The reverse design commemorating prima ballerina Maria Tallchief features Maria Tallchief under a spotlight in balletic pose. Considered America’s first prima ballerina, Maria Tallchief broke even more barriers as she was a Native American ballerina who exuded strength and resilience on and off stage. Her Osage name, which translates to “Two Standards,” is written in Osage orthography on the coin as well. Designed by Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer Ben Sowards and sculpted by United States Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna, the reverse also features the following inscriptions: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “QUARTER DOLLAR,” and “MARIA TALLCHIEF.”

The 100-coin bags and 2-roll sets will be released from Philadelphia and Denver while the 3-roll sets will also include coins from San Francisco.

The four-year series will continue through 2025 and honor five American women each year who have helped shape our nation’s history in a variety of fields including but not limited to civil rights, government, suffrage, humanities, science, space, and the arts.
