Already at The Coin Vault, we have started offering a slew of Year of the Snake options. While not officially beginning until January 29th, 2025, the lunar new year is in full swing. From certified items to raw coins from all over the world, the celebration will continue throughout the year celebrating the current Chinese zodiac.
With all the focus on the Year of the Snake, we thought it would be appropriate to learn a little more about the significance of not only the Snake, but the Chinese calendar and all 12 animals.
The Chinese Zodiac
One of the biggest and most important aspects of Chinese culture is the Chinese zodiac which is a 12-year cycle occurring with the passing of each Chinese New Year. There is an animal attached to each year, repeating after each 12-year rotation. Those animals are the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat (also referred to as Ram or Sheep), Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
While Western astrology focuses on the day and month an individual was born, the Chinese structure focuses on the year. According to that important factor, one’s fate and one’s personality is believed to be influenced by the traits of the animal they are associated with when it comes to their zodiac. In addition, the year is also sometimes accompanied by the importance of the five elements, including wood, fire, earth, metal and water.
Year of the Snake – 2025
The Year of the Snake is significant for its representation of introspection, transformation, and growth. The Snake is known for its wisdom and ability to adapt to new patterns. Individuals born in the Year of the Snake often have calm demeanors, quick intellect, and a deep intuition. They are resourceful, using their leadership skills and problem-solving abilities to their advantage. However, on the flip side, they are generally more skeptical and tend to be quite possessive. As they are quite strategic in their thinking, they can often become overly cautious and secretive.
Lucky numbers are also associated with the lunar years. For the snake, the numbers to watch are 2, 8, and 9. These numbers are to be maximized within a person’s life who happens to be a snake. On the other end of that, 1, 6, and 7 are the numbers to watch out for as they are said to be unlucky.
Even more to deep dive into, red, black and light yellow are their lucky colors while they should avoid dressing or decorating in white, gold, and brown. All directions seem to be in their favor, but they are said to avoid northwest like the plague. In relationships, Year of the Snake people are naturally attracted to people born under the Dragon or Rooster signs. On the other hand, fraternizing with those under the Year of the Tiger or Pig could be difficult due to differences in communication styles and priorities.
