Hold onto your hats, the United States Mint has official releases dates for some of the most anticipated commemorative coins to date! Both the 2021 Morgan and Peace dollars will be released in late May, early June!
We left off this tale (what seems as old as time) in January when the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) were said to have discussed the Silver $1 Coins for the 100th Anniversary of the transition between the last Morgan Silver Dollar and the first Peace dollar all the way back in 1921. It was confirmed that the 100th anniversary would be commemorated with the minimum production of six different coins. It is now confirmed by the Mint’s production schedule not only what coins, but when they will be released.
Kicking off the centennial celebration on May 24th are the ode to the no longer in production United States Mint facilities of Carson City and New Orleans. Both played a major role in early production of the Morgan Silver Dollar and are some of the most collected mintmarks in the entire series for not only their lower mintages in some cases, but their high values and incredible eye appeal.
Both to be produced at the Philadelphia Mint, there will be privy marks doting the ‘CC’ for Carson City and ‘O’ for New Orleans placed at the bottom of the reverse as the original mint marks would have appeared. Each coin will have a product limit of 175,000 and a household limit of 25. Pre-ordering kicks off on May 24th and closes at 3pm EST on June 7th or until inventory is no longer available. Both ‘CC’ and ‘O’ privy marked 2021 Morgan Dollars will be comprised of .999 fine silver and feature an uncirculated finish. Each will be available for $85 and will start shipping in October later this year in black boxes with outer sleeves accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
A week later, on June 1st, the Mint is set to release the Morgan 2021 Silver Dollar with the ‘D’ Mint Mark and the ‘S’ Mint Mark. Both are set to be produced at their respective minting facilities and will be struck in .999 fine silver. Product limits are set at 175,000 for each coin and household limits of 25. The pre-order window will open at noon EST on June 1st and close on June 14th at 3pm EST or until inventory runs out. Retailing at $85 each, they will not begin shipping to purchasers until October this year and will also arrive in black boxes with outer sleeves accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
Finally, on June 7th, produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the Morgan 2021 Silver Dollar and Peace 2021 Silver Dollar will be released. The Morgan dollar will have a product limit of 175,000 and a household limit of 25. Pre-orders will start to be taken at 12pm EST on June 7th and will close on June 21st at 3pm EST. The Morgan dollar will retail at $85 and arrive in a black box with an outer sleeve accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
The Peace dollar will have a product limit of 200,000 and a household limit of 25. Pre-orders will start on June 7th at 12pm EST and end on June 21st at 3pm EST. The .999 fine silver struck coins will also arrive in a black box with an outer sleeve accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and retail at $85.
