Three-quarters of a century. Diamond anniversary. Diamond jubilee. Seventy-five years. No matter which way you slice it, that is a massive achievement! SilverTowne, The Coin Vault’s parent company, will be observing its 75th Anniversary in 2024 and we intend to celebrate it all year round.
Founded 75 years ago in 1949, newly married Leon and Hamie Hendrickson started their life and business together partnering with her parents to own and operate the Rainbow Restaurant in downtown Winchester, Indiana. Leon’s interest in coins would begin at the popular eatery collecting change in a cigar box under the counter. Today, SilverTowne has grown into a multi-million-dollar business.
From operating the business in the basement of the Hendrickson family home in 1967 to expanding into a new facility just steps away in 1980, Leon and his son David would help grow the business over the next four decades and expand operations, including venturing into smelting and custom minting silver bullion in 1985 and purchasing the longest running coin show on television, The Coin Vault, in 2008.
Leon and his beloved wife Ruhama prided themselves on building a company with a firm foundation of honesty and integrity. Leon always believed a person could be trusted by a handshake. With four generations having worked or currently working for the business, SilverTowne continues to thrive on strong family-oriented practices and continues to serve customers from all over. Over the past 75 years, the company has grown into one of the country’s largest and most respected dealers of rare coins, modern coins, and precious metals.
“What an achievement,” Brock Abel, CEO/Owner/3rd Generation Numismatist, says. “It truly shows great family values. We appreciate every single customer.”
