U.S. Mint Unveils Designs for 2025 U.S. Marine Corps 250th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Program

Earlier this summer, members from the United States Mint, in addition to the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, united to reveal the designs for the upcoming 2025 United States Marine Corps 250th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Program. At the ceremony held at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia near Quantico (Marine Corps Base), they announced the designs to be featured on a $1 silver coin, a half dollar clad coin, and a $5 gold coin. The commemorative program will help support the mission of the Marine Corps Heritage Center.

United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designers created the designs while Mint Medallic artists sculpted them.

The Mint’s Deputy Director, Kristie McNally, stated that every coin in the program represents the deep appreciation for the Marine Corps from the nation.

“We are incredibly thankful for every active Marine, veteran, and the families who support them,” said McNally. “It is our privilege to connect America to the profound legacy of the United States Marine Corps.”

With the sale of each coin, a portion will go to support the Marine Corps Heritage Center.

“As we unveil the designs of these commemorative coins, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation remains steadfast in our mission to honor, preserve, and perpetuate the legacy of our Marine Corps,” said Major General James W. Lukeman, USMC (Ret.), President and CEO of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. “These coins are a testament to the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of all Marines, ensuring that their stories will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.”

$1 Silver Coin

Designed by Ron Sanders and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, the obverse of the $1 Silver Coin will feature the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “1775,” “MARINES,” and “2025” and depict the flag raising at Iwo Jima.

The reverse depicts the official emblem of the Marine Corps. The Eagle, Globe, and Anchor are in the center with the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “THE FEW, THE PROUD,” and “ONE DOLLAR” featured around the remainder of the design. Donna Weaver designed the reverse and Craig A. Campbell was the sculptor.

Half Dollar Clad Coin

The obverse design showcases a modern Marine in the foreground and a Continental Marine in the background. Inscriptions also featured are “250 YEARS OF HONOR, COURAGE, AND COMMITMENT,” “1775-2025,” “USMC,” “LIBERTY,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” Emily Damstra designed the obverse while Eric David Custer sculpted it.

With designer Donna Weaver and sculptor Craig A. Campbell coming together for the reverse, the half dollar clad coin also features the same reverse as the $1 silver coin and $5 gold coin. It depicts the official emblem of the Marine Corps, with the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor in the center with the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “THE FEW, THE PROUD,” and “HALF DOLLAR” featured.

$5 Gold Coin

Featured on the obverse is a Marine Corps color guard with the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “1775,” and “2025” around the design sculpted by John P. McGaw and designed by Donna Weaver.

The common reverse features the official emblem of the Marine Corps, with the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor in the center with the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “THE FEW, THE PROUD,” and “FIVE DOLLARS.” Once again, Donna Weaver designed the coin’s reverse while Craig A. Campbell was the sculptor.
