CCAC Reviews Designs for 2027-2028 Platinum Coins

In February, the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) recommended their choice of designs that were proposed for the 2027 and 2028 Proof Platinum American Eagles series. The coins will be the second- and third-year design for the Charters of Freedom Series that will begin next year in 2026. The design proposed for the first year (2026) was recommended by the CCAC and Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) back in October of last year (2024).

The 3-year series will be following the Declaration of Independence, United States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. The 2026 design will embody the Declaration of Independence as sun rays peak through storm clouds, symbolizing the beginning of a new nation despite the turmoil of a revolution. A quill is featured in the foreground, symbolizing the impact of the founding of the nation and the ideas put into place making up the document.

To continue the series, the proposed design for 2027 will showcase the U.S. Constitution. The design will continue from 2026’s, showing the storm clouds getting smaller as the sunlight grows bigger and stronger, representing the country’s progress to independence. A tree replaces the quill in the foreground, showing the foundation laid and built upon by the Declaration of Independence.

Finally, for 2028, the design continues its progression, showcasing an established tree that is protecting a young person. This represents shelter and security, and the rights and freedoms set forth by the Bill of Rights. There are no more storm clouds, but instead a scene completely covered in sunlight.

The common reverse, which was proposed last year created by the United States Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer Patricia Lucas-Morris, depicts an eagle in flight holding an olive branch in its talons. It was sculpted by none other than Don Everhart.
